Hello Sweet World! Hope you had a great weekend. Mine was a blast. We went to a local festival in the mountains of Virginia called FloydFest and it was exactly what i needed. Good music, good food and a good time. While i’m finishing up the trip here, i thought i’d share the last of the photos from my trip to Austin, Texas. So, here goes!
The title of this post says it all. I signed up on the geocaching website back in 2008 and tried to find a few caches back then, but wasn’t successful. I blame it on not having the greatest GPS. Fast forward to a few years later and geocaching is back in my life, and i’m nothing short of addicted. Everywhere i go i want to see if there’s a cache nearby and i’ve even gotten a couple co-workers involved. If you don’t know anything about geocaching, it’s basically a scavenger hunt of sorts using clues and GPS coordinates to find a small container that houses a log to sign, then you log it on the website to keep track of the ones you’ve found. It can actually take you to some places you’d never go otherwise, or show you places that you never knew existed. Sometimes it can be tricky, other times it can be easy, and you may even feel like a crazy person looking in the bushes for something most people don’t even know exists. Caches can range in size to tiny to a large ammo box and sometimes you can even find treasures to trade in them. There’s probably even a cache or two within a mile of where you are at all times. Once you find one, you’ll want to find them all. Here are some that i’ve found recently…
Since i’ve been caching so much lately, i’ve even put a small kit together of supplies to carry with me at all times for that last-minute find or so i’ll be prepared if i choose to find one. Yup, it’s that serious. The items in it are for trading or leaving in the larger caches, and you will always need a pen and sometimes even tweezers!
Some of them even have trackables in them, which you can take and move to another cache location. These can be tracked online to see how far they’ve traveled. The one i found has made it to Missouri from Washington state so far.
Geocaching is definitely a unique hobby but you do have to be careful. Some caches include hiking, boating, thorns, ticks, and other outdoor activities. You also have to be sly when grabbing those caches in public. People are very creative in hiding them and even in the containers that they’re in. But nonetheless, i’m addicted!
Happy caching, Sweet World!
Since i’ve gotten back from my trip across the ocean to the Netherlands, things have been a whirlwind. I’ve been working like a mad woman and trying to keep up with every day life as well. Not that i’m complaining, because i love my job, but i’m just now getting a chance to post some photos of Holland for you. Here are some of my favorites that i took and that make me wish i was still back in the land of the Dutch…..
Hi Sweet World! I’ve been wanting to have a giveaway for a while now and finally have gathered all the items for it. As i’ve said before, i’m going to Holland on Monday. Half of my family lives there, as i am 50% Dutch. I can’t wait to see them because it’s been 3 years already since i have. In some ways it feels just like yesterday when i was there. In others, it feels like it’s been forever. I am stoked for this trip and nervous. Most of all, i’m glad i get to travel again. I love travelling and have been having a severe case of wanderlust lately. I just need to travel. Do you ever feel like that? I love exploring new places and taking photographs of new sights. Here are some photos from my last haul across the Atlantic Ocean, some of my favorites…
I know this is a typical, mainstream post these days. Even the January photo-a-day on Instagram included a ‘what’s in your bag?’ day. I am not participating in the Instagram challenge, but i thought it would be fun to still share what is actually in my bag. (Speaking of Instagram, i added a new button below my links to mine :o) )I rarely even get to carry a purse since i work a lot and don’t need one there. However, i got this snazzy new Coach bag for Christmas and soon filled it with lots of goodies to haul around. So, without further ado……
- Keys, complete with a Holland keychain. Gotta represent the fam!
- Wallet. Handmade and bought at a local boutique. I carry it everywhere, even if i don’t have a bag.
- Russian Belomo camera. See here.
- Polaroid Mio camera. Thrifted for $3 when i first moved to the Midwest. All it needed was a new battery.
- Coach wristlet. I’ve had this a few years and it magically matches the bag. The only other Coach item i own is a collar for my dog. Ha!
- Travel journal.
- Badger Lavender and Orange lip balm. My absolute favorite.
- White iphone 4. We have a love/hate relationship.
- Mentos gum. Fresh breath?
- Red pen. Ballpoint.
- Blistex lotion. My hands of are the unfortunate type to crack like dry leaves in the winter.
- Ibuprofen. I try not to take it as much anymore but when you have that headache….
- Hand sanitizer. Gotta be clean.
So, Sweet World, what’s in your bag?
